From my point of view there isn’t any distinction between business and IT. Actually, I really don’t understand when people differentiate between “IT” and “Business” when using those two terms. I believe that IT is one of the company’s business units just as finance, human resources, marketing, etc. and IT also contributes to the company value chain.
Actually in the new business paradigm, which has started to take over older business paradigm, IT has huge contribution and influence on the business value chain. I also believe that IT contribution to the business value chain is not by leveraging new technologies, rather IT contribution and competitive advantage is based on the people that form the IT department!
I’m using this slide to translate my believes into Friedkin companies IT goals and mission. I’m using disruptive technologies to depict technology changes on our business paradigm over the years and obviously in the future. Since many people still perceive IT as an utility provider, I decided to depict the transition from utility provider to business value contributor as well.
